Last night was the 7th GOP Presidential debate and it was very different from the others. It was hosted by Bloomberg television (thus no one watched it except online) and the Washington Post. The setting was different (I kind of liked it) as the candidates sat encircled facing each other and where allowed to ask each other direct questions. Finally, the topic was limited to the economy - obviously the most important issue going into the 2012 Presidential election.
This latter point is particularly helpful. I wish we would get an entire debate on each major subject including fiscal policy, social issues, and national security. But then again, I'm not planning the debates. Overall, however, from what I've seen, not much has changed. Cain will likely continue to rise. Romney has no one else to support him and so will remain the same in the polls. His job is to keep people like Cain from surpassing him. And Perry will continue to plummet. I predict that by the end of October or November this will be a race between Mitt Romney, Hermann Cain, and Newt Gingrich. Perry just has too much ground to make up. Our next President could be one of those three.
Anyways, here is the debate in full.
And just in case, here is the entire debate in a different format.
